The title came to me when I realized that the rock formations seemed to suggest an upturned face on one side with hands on the other. It was one of those happy accidents that was not done with intent.

Mark Malonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17163465447696619274noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2895267254363652092.post-51150196187712159242014-08-20T14:43:00.000-07:002014-08-20T14:43:09.564-07:00RhinocerosAnother in my "Forgotten Dreams" series. I recently saw a film with this extinct animal as an integral part of the film. One can find footage of the last of the "tigers" from the 1930's. They were not tigers at all. More closely related to Tasmanian Devils, they look more like a dog with a giant mouth, striped, a tail like a kangaroo and a marsupial to boot.Mark Malonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17163465447696619274noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2895267254363652092.post-31466926964635070712014-04-26T17:12:00.000-07:002014-04-26T17:12:30.290-07:00Forgotten Dreams Series: "Scattered" 36x36x3This is the latest in my Forgotten Dreams Series of Cave Paintings.

Mark Malonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17163465447696619274noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2895267254363652092.post-20971721328973301082013-01-24T16:57:00.003-08:002013-01-24T17:00:02.337-08:00ART SHOWI am having an art show at The Wine Therapist in Dallas. The work is, for the most part already up. My grand opening will be on Saturday, January 26th from 7-9. At 9pm, "The Pink Torpedoes" will begin rocking the house with their astonishing catalogue of songs.
My show is comprised mostly of two series of paintings that I have been working on. One is called, "Forgotten Dreams" and is inspired by cave paintings from all over the world. The second is "Navajo Daydreams" which is an abstract series of paintings using my favorite palette of colors from the American Southwest. There will also be an assortment of landscapes still lives and figurative work. Some limited reproductions are available and any original work can be sold as a limited reproduction. Some of these reproductions are on canvas and others on acrylic panels.

I was inspired by cave paintings from all over the world. I used lots of texture to lend the work the look and feel of stone. I used charcoal and dry pigments to lend an air of authenticity to the work. I am amazed at the sophistication of our ancient ancestors and the beauty of their work that still survives.

I love this painting. It flowed through me as if I was some kind of medium. I use this palette a lot, so that was not so different, but the composition and application of color was spontaneous and I have rarely felt this free in the process of painting. There was little hesitation. My studio mates provided input which was taken and I am so happy with this piece that I think it will become the first of a series. It (they) are not finished, but almost. I am unsure as to marketing them as a trio or individually. I intend to put a resin on each one when I am done. I am also unsure as to signing them, because they can be placed in various positions. Advice is welcome. All of the Navaho Daydreams paintings are currently showing at the Dutch Art Gallery. There is now only one left of this tryptic.Mark Malonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17163465447696619274noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2895267254363652092.post-6095667363582961462011-04-24T21:19:00.000-07:002011-04-24T21:24:46.676-07:00updated but unfinished Dame Elizabeth..<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU-SRFPewIclRRNzLn2-tZv95Nm2dxbTbW0HA02KjMNdCnp6P_c4u70zrMw5rxs0fn9QdPv2c_gyKFoOrc6my9a5xcXGJkliCgO_f98y_aFAednbUImpCb63vAdPLpdXHGRVyxd8KWTBQ/s320/P1050277.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599372359725386466" />
I am not sure this is improved. I spent most of the day working on her. Portraiture is not my strong suit. I lifted her nose about a half inch, worked with the shadows on the nose, adjusted the lips, added iridescent white to the eyelids and gave her some color as well as some beads in her hair. I need to put this aside and ponder this for a while and start something new. Comments welcome.Mark Malonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17163465447696619274noreply@blogger.com0
